Christie's Auktion - alle Gegenstände über 15 Tausend Dollar Erlös

Beatles, Hendrix Lead the Way at Christie's Auction

Christie's in London held their Rock and Pop Memorabilia Auction earlier today (Thursday) with the big lots revolving around the Beatles and Jimi Hendrix.

215 lots sold during the auction with the big winner being the original bass drum skin from the cover of the Beatles Sgt. Pepper's album which fetched just short of $1.1 million. Not far behind was John Lennon's handwritten lyrics for Give Peace a Chance at $830k.

The following are the lots that sold for $15,000 or more:

  • Beatle's hand painted bass drum skin that appeared on the cover of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - $1,067,346
  • John Lennon's handwritten lyrics for Give Peace a Chance as penned in his Toronto hotel room during his Bed-In for Peace - $830,706
  • Jimi Hendrix' performance at the Woburn Music Festival (July 6 & 7, 1968) on real-to-real tape - $94,755
  • John Lennon's tinted glasses as worn during 1973 and 1974 and seen on the Mind Games picture sleeve cover $78,190
  • Pete Townshend's 1967 Gibson SG Special guitar used in the 70's and 80's, with a letter from Townshend saying this "must be one of the few passing through my hands, which has survived without getting smashed" - $63,991
  • Jimi Hendrix' 1966 Marshall Super Lead 100 Watt amplifier head used for concerts from 1967 to 1969 - $49,300
  • John Lennon and Yoko Ono signed collage called "Who Was Mother Goose? for Elton" - $44,370
  • Jimi Hendrix' striped trousers as worn in 1967 - $39,440
  • The magazine Best of the Beatles From Fabulous with multiple signatures by all four Beatles - $29,580
  • Pete Townshend's classical acoustic guitar, with rosewood fretboard and spruce top, 1960s, signed and inscribed on the body in black felt pen "Pete Townshend, May 19, 2000" - $27,115
  • John Paul Jones' Acoustic 361 bass stack (c.1969) - $27,115
  • John Lennon letter with his views on the Maharishi and meditation from 1967-68 - $24,650
